Golden Week lasts seven days. Its impact on supply chains can last much longer.
From October 1, China enters its annual Golden Week – one of the country's most important holiday periods.
Factories and businesses may close or operate at reduced capacity, while the period leading up to the holidays traditionally puts additional pressure on logistics networks.
But for shippers, the important date isn't October 1.
It's the weeks before.
Higher demand ahead of factory closures, tighter capacities and possible post-holiday backlogs mean that shipments planned for late September and October require an early look at timelines and availability.
Planning ahead, booking capacity early and keeping some flexibility in the supply chain can help reduce the impact.
Because seven days off can affect several weeks of logistics.
Plan before the rush – not during it.
